Center for Academic Success

The Center for Academic Success offers free assistance to all students who wish to improve and enhance their academic performance in grammar and writing or need help with other subjects in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. The Center contains the Alice Randall Writing Center and the Tutoring Center. All writing consultants and tutors are CNU students and are trained to help CNU students. The Center is open from the second week of classes through the last week of classes during fall and spring semesters.

Alice Randall Writing Center
The Writing Center is named after a member of the CNU English Department who devoted many years to helping students become better writers. The Writing Center was dedicated in honor of Alice Randall in August 1993. The Writing Center is open to students from across the curriculum to improve their writing. Students may make 30- to 45-minute appointments by calling the Center (594.7684) or dropping by Room 240 in the Trible Library; we also take walk-ins on a space available basis. The Center has an extensive library of handouts, handbooks, workbooks, dictionaries and reference books available to both students and faculty. In addition to individual consultations, we offer a series of workshops throughout the year on essay development, grammar, punctuation and documentation form. The consultants in the Writing Center are CNU students who have completed a three-credit Writing Center practicum and can help at all stages of the writing process, from generating ideas to developing and polishing later drafts.

Tutoring Center
The Tutoring Center is staffed by CNU students who have been successful in the courses they tutor and they often are majoring in that subject. You will find tutors for many of the courses in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum, including: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Communication Studies, Government, Philosophy, Spanish, German, and French. The hours vary for each subject and a schedule is available on the board in the Center for Academic Success or at this site. Appointments are not necessary for the Tutoring Center.
